Terms and conditions
Last updated: 26 October 2026
About these terms
Ora Bem Portuguese is run by Diogo Portugal, a self-employed European Portuguese tutor working from Portugal. Tax number (NIF): [NIF]. Address: [address]. Contact: writetodiogo.languages@gmail.com. These terms apply to the private lessons, group lessons, Tertúlia and PDF workbooks offered on this website. They are available in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
Prices and payment
Prices are final prices in euros, including any taxes due. Everything is paid in advance through the payment provider at checkout, and you receive an invoice.
Private and trial lessons
- Lessons take place by video call, at a time you book in the booking calendar.
- Lessons are for the student who booked them.
- You can reschedule or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the lesson. Later cancellations, and lessons missed without notice, count as lessons given.
- If Diogo has to cancel a lesson, you choose between a new time and a refund for that lesson.
Packs and plans
- Packs. A pack of 5 or 10 private lessons (of 55 minutes or 1h25) is paid in one go and is valid for 3 months (5) or 6 months (10) from the date of payment. Lessons must take place within that time; any not used by then expire and are not refunded, except as set out under ‘Right of withdrawal’. If Diogo is unable to give lessons during that time (for example, holidays), the validity is extended by the same period. Lessons from a 55-minute pack can't be used for 1h25 lessons, or the other way round.
- Plans (every 4 weeks). The plan renews automatically every 4 weeks (28 days) until you cancel it, and each payment gives you the number of lessons in the plan. Lessons you don't use carry over to the next 4 weeks and then expire (they are valid for 8 weeks from the payment). There is no minimum term. You can switch plans (4 or 8 lessons, 55 minutes or 1h25) in ‘Manage my plan’: the switch applies from your next payment, with no adjustment to the period already paid.
- Pause. You can ask by email to pause your plan for up to 3 weeks, once per cycle. There are no charges during the pause, and the lessons you haven't used yet stay valid for that much longer.
- Reminder. Between 30 and 24 hours before each lesson, you get a reminder email with the deadline for cancelling or moving it free of charge. The reminder is a courtesy: the rules apply even if you don't receive it.
- Cancelling your plan. You can cancel at any time, free of charge, in ‘Manage my plan’ (linked on the website) or by email. The plan ends at the end of the period you have already paid for, with no further charges; the lessons from that period remain available until they expire.
- Price changes. If the price of a plan changes, you will be told by email at least 30 days before the new price applies, and you can cancel before then.
- Booking. Lessons paid with a pack or plan are booked in the booking calendar with the same email you paid with, and follow the rescheduling and cancellation rules above: up to 24 hours before, the lesson goes back to your balance; after that, or if you miss it without notice, it counts as given. Moving a lesson less than 24 hours before counts as a late cancellation: the original lesson counts as given and the new lesson uses another lesson from your balance.
- Payment. Packs: card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, MB WAY or Multibanco. Plans: card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or SEPA Direct Debit. If you pay by Multibanco, the lessons become available once the payment is confirmed.
- Packs and plans are for the student who bought them. If Diogo becomes unable to give the lessons, paid lessons that have not been used are refunded.
Group lessons and Tertúlia
- Group lessons and the Tertúlia run in groups of 3 to 4 people (Tertúlia sessions are always 1h25), and there can be several groups. A group starts when 3 people with the same session length can make the same time. People who sign up go on a waitlist and are contacted to agree a time.
- They are paid only once the group is confirmed, in one payment, for the cycle chosen when signing up: 1, 2 or 3 months, with 1 or 2 sessions a week, of 55 minutes or 1h25 (a group brings together people who chose the same session length). In the Tertúlia, the themes are chosen by the votes of the people who sign up.
- If a group does not start, you get a full refund within 14 days, using the same payment method. If a group drops below 3 people after it has started, the sessions continue and there is no refund. If Diogo cancels a session, you choose between a new date and a refund for that session.
- Missed group or Tertúlia sessions cannot be refunded or moved, because the session goes ahead anyway, even if not everyone attends; if nobody attends, it counts as held.
- The monthly open Tertúlia session is free and has limited places.
PDF workbooks
- You receive a download link by email straight after payment.
- The workbooks are for your own study. You may print them for your own use, but you may not share, resell or publish them. Teachers who want to use them in class can write to writetodiogo.languages@gmail.com.
- The workbooks and other digital content are covered by the legal guarantee of conformity (Portuguese Decree-Law 84/2021): if they do not conform, you are entitled to have them brought into conformity and, in the cases set out in the law, to a proportionate price reduction or to end the contract. If a file is damaged or does not open, you get a new copy or a refund straight away.
Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer, you have 14 days from the purchase to withdraw from the contract without giving a reason. To do so, use the withdrawal page (where you will also find the model withdrawal form), or send any clear statement to writetodiogo.languages@gmail.com. Within 24 hours at most, you receive an email confirming that your request has arrived. Refunds are made within 14 days of receiving your request, using the same payment method.
- Lessons, groups and Tertúlia (including packs and plans). If you want the service to start within the 14 days, you will be asked to request this expressly when booking and to acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once the service has been fully provided. Your request is recorded and sent to you by email. If you withdraw before then, you pay an amount proportional to what has already been provided.
- PDF workbooks. The file is delivered immediately. At checkout you are asked to agree that delivery starts straight away and to acknowledge that, once you receive the file, you lose the right of withdrawal (Portuguese Decree-Law 24/2014, art. 17(1)(l)). You receive an email confirming this consent. Without that consent and confirmation, you keep the right of withdrawal.

Results and information on this website
The lessons and materials are designed to help you learn, but exam results and applications for residence or nationality depend on factors outside Ora Bem Portuguese's control, so no result can be guaranteed. Information on this website about official requirements is general and may change; always check the official sources. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under consumer law.
